All colors were inspired by the rich environment of Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park. From wheat fields to mountain meadows, from summer sunsets to wintry mornings, Colorado’s colors are intense and rich on clear sunny days; muted and mysterious on rare cloudy days. Names of yarns and colors were inspired by flora and fauna, places, and history of Colorado. Great care and extensive research has gone into reproducing exciting colors for the CO colors palette and I hope you will be pleased with the variety of colors as well as the quality of the yarns.
What is Handpainted?
Handpainted literally means painted by hand. It describes the technique used (brushes and sponges), not the medium (dye, not paint). I mostly use fiber reactive dyes which bond with the fiber at the molecular level making the colors light fast and colorfast.
Yarn Styles and Color Ways
There are approximately 20 yarn styles and 17 colors (+ approx 4 accidentals). Each color palette has somewhere between 5 – 9 colors. I generally paint small dyelots on a rotating basis. Even though I strictly follow my recipes, the handpainted yarn is still subject to my whimsy, not to mention the peculiarities of dyes fixers and fibers reacting together. Thus each skein is theoretically one-of-a-kind.
Fiber and Color Behavior
Please be aware that each fiber takes the dye in its own unique way. Rayon, cotton and silk will generally take the dye deeper and/or brighter than wool, mohair, and alpaca. Therefore, if you’re designing a project mixing fibers in one color, there could be an interesting variation.
Samples
I don’t have sample cards. Maybe, again, in the future (it’s almost a whole separate business). The pictures on the website depict the color accurately on my monitor. If you need to have a sample of a certain yarn, you can email me at samples@neotadesigns.com to check on availability. If I have a sample of the yarn(s) you are interested in you will need to send me an SASE.
Ordering
Each yarn style & color way have a posted stock status. That is all that is available until more is painted. Buy enough of what you need.
