Handwoven Handpainted Handdyed
My passion is for fiber and color. I am a weaver, dyer, and knitter of many samples. That’s the short story.
The Longer Version:
After dabbling in many fine arts and crafts and a false start in school as a commercial artist (aka graphic designer), I took a class in weaving and have been smitten ever since. That was in the late 70’s and along the way have added dyer ( I like dyeologist) to my list of compulsions, addictions, passions. I started dyeing my own yarn in the mid 90’s because I liked variegated yarns but could hardly find any that didn’t streak or stripe in my projects.
So…over several years and much research I developed my own techniques and dye recipes for handpainting yarn and began selling them at the Estes Park Wool Market. Initially, I had 7 yarns, 7 colors, and a half-sized booth and probably less than 50 skeins for sale (so pitiful, so hopeful). Fast forward to 2010 and I have a full booth, + or – 20 yarns, + or – 20 colors, hundreds of skeins (and customers).
Oh yes, and for the last seven years a studio/store combo where I can weave, dye, sew, knit, play and share (ok, sell) my yarn, handwovens, hand dyed silks, etc., etc. in the beautiful mountain town of Estes Park, CO.
People always ask me if it’s fun to handpaint the yarn. It’s fun to design a new color way but the most fun is watching fellow fiberholics pick out yarns for their stash or projects and helping (enabling?) them in that endeavor.
Happy Fiber-ing! Deb
